You won’t be there to remind them. That’s the point, and that’s the worry.

For years, a lot of your student’s structure has come from you. In college it disappears overnight. The question isn’t whether they’re smart enough. It’s whether they have something inside to replace it.

In college, every course comes with a syllabus: the professor’s plan for what’s due and when. The Inner Syllabus is the plan your student carries inside: what they value, how they learn, and how they run their own week when no one is checking.

What parents worry about

“Will they study without reminders?”

“Will they make good decisions?”

“Will they call when something’s wrong?”

“Will they find their people?”

What’s often underneath

Motivation that has always come from outside

No compass of their own yet

No words yet for naming what’s hard

Not yet steady enough in who they are

What you’ll work on as a parent

Moving from manager to consultant

Knowing when to step in and when to step back

Staying close without taking over

Your own side of the transition

For parents

This is your transition too

You get support of your own. It’s coaching for you, not a report on your child: when to step in, when to step back, and how to stay close while they grow up.

“You’ll go from hoping for the best to knowing what you and your kid are already built to handle, and what you’ll still need to learn along the way.”

Common questions

My student doesn’t want coaching.
Many don’t at first. The free evening workshop is low-stakes, and it’s often where students change their minds.

Is this therapy?
This is coaching, focused on growth, decisions, and practical skills. If your student ever needs more support than coaching offers, I’m glad to help you find the right person.

Will you tell me what my student says?
Their reflections stay theirs, which is part of why this works. In 1:1 coaching, we agree up front on what gets shared.

We’re the first in our family to go to college.
Welcome. Much of this covers the things nobody explains out loud, and you don’t need to know the system to start.

Is it in person?
Workshops and boot camp meet in Greensboro. 1:1 coaching can be in person or virtual.
